Time travel is a difficult subject to pull off in the limited time of a TV series, but NBC has opted to gamble with Journeyman, to be shown in its fall lineup. Journeyman is from the West Wing's Emmy Award-winning tandem of writer-producer and director-producer, Kevin Falls and Alex Graves. NBC describes Journeyman as "a romantic mystery-drama". The time travel aspect of the show is not overly emphasized in the show's official site, the focus was more on how the lead character, Dan Vasser, deals with the after effects of his travels on his present relationships. Journeyman will premier on September 24, 2007 and will be shown every Monday at 10:00/9:00c on NBC.
The plot of Journeyman revolves around Dan Vasser, a San Francisco newspaper reporter, who by unexplained circumstances is able to travel through time, and by doing so changes the lives of people he encounters. Sounds cool right? But ask yourself this, what happens to the "present" Dan when he travels in time? The "present" Dan, of course "disappears" from the present, and this causes a lot of problems in his work and home relationships. Think of all the news beats Dan would miss, and think how his wife would react. This story angle is explored in the pilot episode of Journeyman wherein Dan returns home after a bad day and he finds out that someone else is living in his house who tells him that it is the year 1987. When Dan finally makes it to his "present" home, his wife (Katie) and son (Jack) question his whereabouts for the past two days. Being the family man that he is, Dan's family is taken by surprise with his sudden disappearance.
Journeyman will also tackle the topic of lost love. As Dan Vasser travels more and more in time, he meets Livia Beale, his fiancee who died in a plane crash. Meeting her complicates Dan's relationship with his wife and family. For if Livia did not die, he will surely be married to her. And now Dan has the power to prevent her death, the ultimate question is, will he trade his present life with the chance to be with his lost love? How will Livia being alive change Dan's future? This is one of the hot story angles that Journeyman will delve into as the series unfolds.
The cast of Journeyman is as follows: Kevin McKidd from "Rome" as Dan Vasser, Moon Bloodgood of "Day Break" as Livia Beale, and Gretchen Egolf from "Martial Law" as Katie Vasser, Ned's wife. Reed Diamond as Jack Vasser, Brian Howe as Hugh Skillen, and Charles Henry Wyson also star. Journeyman is a production of 20th Century Fox Television.
